The dining room table I’m obsessed with

17 Feb

So I have been lusting over the Trestle Dining Table from Restoration Hardware for months now. I have pinned probably every photo there is of it on the internet and I cannot get enough. It has been on sale for a couple weeks now and I got scared that the sale would end soon so I pulled the trigger on my dining table obsession today and can’t wait for it to come in!

Love the simple vase with big blooms. I don’t particulary love those chairs as I think they’re too big so I’m going to find different ones.

It comes with 2 leaves to extend the table from 72 inches long to 102 inches.

I think the light color of the table is going to look amazing against our dark coffee & mahogany stained floors. Speaking of which should be getting stained very soon!

In other updates the staircase is stained, the new spindles are ready to be installed and all the trim and doors are painted! All our cabinets are at the finishers and should be ready to get installed mid next week. The painter should be finishing up painting the whole house next week as well. I’m anxious to see how our color choices turned out. We chose a light gray for the main floor with a seafoamy color for the dining room. Mauvey cool colors for the spare bedrooms, pale baby blue for the bathrooms, and a darker gray for the master. I’ll have more info on the specific colors once I can post photos of the rooms painted those colors!

Things are starting to wrap up (hopefully). I still can’t wait to see our kitchen cabinets and want the granite company to come and measure so bad so we can get everything moving! I’m so antsy to decorate and am seeing a smooth transition into a home decorating blog once the reno and wedding are over 🙂 Hope you will stay a while and keep up with the journey of our house becoming our home!

And the renovations go on…

6 Feb

Yes contrary to popular belief we are still in the midst of our home renovation. We are slowly getting closer and closer to a finished product (a.k.a our first home) and I can’t wait! I knew we would have to be patient when we decided to take this on but I’m just ready for warm weather, the house to become our home, & fun wedding events that this summer will bring.

Work continues on Garden Court. We now have all tile installed, vanities have arrived, hardwood floors installed, interior doors, trim, and crown molding. We bought new spindles for the stairs. Our kitchen cabinets are completed and are on their way to get painted before being installed. The painter starts priming the walls tomorrow! A lot is going on and hopefully all the work ahead will fly by.

Yes those are new hardwood floors even though you can’t tell because of all the dust and dirt! They will be getting stained in a couple weeks. We also went with classic 6 paneled interior doors.

So remember my home depot vanity? Well the color in real life is less “Antique blue” and more just green. I think it looks like seaweed and I will be painting it a very pale blue before it gets installed.

Here are some sneak peeks at the tile. All the bathrooms are pure chaos right now so i think all the amazing tile & vanities deserve their own beautiful reveal later on. This is the guest bathroom shower.

Dirty guest bathroom floor.

My beloved basketweave marble floor in the master bath plus Kevin’s creepy hand. Looks so awesome in person, I’m really happy with how this turned out.

Marble subway tile master shower with shampoo shelf! I love how different each tile is giving the whole shower such variation.

Here is a sample of our kitchen granite “super white” next to our cabinet color Benjamin Moore’s “Dove White”.

Different lighting totally changes the color of the cabinets in photos. It’s more of a creamy white than it looks in the first photo but definitely lighter than the second.

We chose Dove White for all the trim and doors throughout the house as well. I feel like it will give everything a nice cohesiveness.

I’m really anxious to see the cabinets installed! They’re going to totally change the whole kitchen/family room for the better! Stay tuned!

We now have STDs!

6 Feb

No not that kind of STD! In wedding world STD stands for save the date. This is unbeknownst to many and can cause quite the reaction.

Our save the dates have been sent! I totally overanalyzed on our STDs over and over again sending screen shot after screen shot to Kevin asking which he likes. There were so many options it was overwhelming. I know magnets and postcards are popular choices these days but we decided to go with a flat card. Finally we ended up choosing one that displayed some of the best of our engagement photos. It was simple, elegant, and straight to the point. We used Wedding Paper Divas. I highly recommend them!

Without further ado… our save the dates!

One thing I was a little hesitant on was the fact that it didn’t say our last names. But then I figured all the people invited better know who we are or else why are they even invited in the first place? With that as my rationale I sent these puppies out into the world for our guests to receive.

Happy New Year!!

3 Jan

Wow. Can you believe it’s 2012? Seems crazy to me! A lot of big exciting changes are happening this year. The completion of our entire home renovation as well as our wedding in August!! I’m so excited about both. I have kinda been slacking in wedding planning recently because everything reno has taken over our lives but that’s okay. I feel pretty good about where we are at in wedding planning and have just over 8 months to go! Next up are our save the dates, which I’ll be sharing later on.

I have progress photos of the house! It’s been a long time since I shared some, so here it goes.

Right when you walk in the door from the garage

You are now officially updated on all the progress at the house! It’s coming along quickly. Our hardwood floors for the entire first floor of the house are coming in a week. I hope to secure our slab of granite for the kitchen counters within the next week, and we are selecting the rest of our light fixtures soon! I’m most anxious to see how the kitchen turns out, we have a meeting with our contractor tonight to confirm our custom cabinet selection.

I’m getting ahead of myself with looking at furniture, but I’m so dang excited to decorate the house!

Wishing you all the best in 2012!!!

Oh hello there…

24 Dec

Hi friends. Sorry I have been so MIA lately. I know it’s been a long while since I’ve posted.

Work got crazy, things with the house got crazy, and the newest addition to our family, my sweet nephew, decided to arrive 3 and a half weeks early.

Meet Corban James born December 8th, 2011 at 10:45 pm weighing 6 lbs 8 oz.

Uncle Kevin & Aunt Lauren

Already so in love with this little guy.

He is the perfect addition to our family and is so loved already.

In house news lots of updates going on. Our front door is installed, new gas fireplace, all windows, and siding. All electrical and plumbing is done!! We bought all the tile for the bathrooms this week. The master bath is basically all carerra marble which I am SO excited about. I wanted marble countertops for the kitchen but know they’re not practical so we’re going with granite that closest resembles marble.

We ordered the bathroom vanities and I ordered light fixtures for the front hall entryway, kitchen lights over the island, fixture for above the eat in kitchen table, and the chandelier for the dining room. All the fixtures are from overstock.com, except one is from pottery barn. Here is what I chose.

This little lovely is from pottery barn it is the Dalila Beaded Pendant. It was one of the only fixtures I could find that is small enough to hang right in the entryway by the front door. I love the glam birdcage look of it.

I bought two of these mini chandeliers to go over our island. I wanted to add something pretty to the kitchen without it being over the top. I’m going to spray the brown base with a chrome spray paint to match the chrome kitchen fixtures.

I chose this pendant chandelier to go over our eat in kitchen table. It’s a little more casual but still pretty. I like it’s simplicity so it won’t be competing with the mini chandeliers over the island.

This is the chandelier I purchased for above our dining room table. I love it. It’s a little bit modern with the white iron but still sophisticated with the crystals. I love the mix of modern and traditional this chandelier has. It’s also less stuffy than a traditional crystal chandelier so it will work when we are using the dining room formally and casually.

So I’m going to overload you with photos of stuff for the house because I’ve been slacking on posting. Next up are the bathroom vanities.

Now let me tell you how hard it is to find a decent bathroom vanity at a decent price. Very hard. Everything is SO expensive! Well I’m happy to say I’m proud of the ones I found.

First up this vanity is going in our first floor powder room. It’s from home depot! Who would have guessed. I love the color, it’s fun and different.

All of the door hardware in the house is going to be oil rubbed bronze. The bathrooms and kitchen will all have chrome hardware except the powder room fixtures will also be oil rubbed bronze.

This is our master bathroom vanity. It’s a very dark espresso color with a black granite top. Our marble floor is a basket weave design with little accents of black to pick up the black in the vanity. This one is from overstock.com.

Last but not least this is our double vanity for the upstairs guest/hall bathroom. The shower is going to be white subway tile with a marble and glass accent border. I think the white vanity with the carerra marble top will go perfectly. This one is from Home Design Outlet Center.

Let me know what you think of our choices! I’m so excited to see it all come together! So now you can see somewhat of where the design of the house is going. I have progress photos and I need to take more so next time I will be able to show you those.

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year! See you in 2012!

They’re here!!!

18 Nov

Ahh!!! They’re here! Our engagement photos are ready for viewing. I’m so excited to share them with you guys! Kevin and I had so much fun at our engagement shoot with Amanda Hein of Amanda Hein Photography, I could not stop laughing most of the time. Now just to forewarn you I guess I never realized what an ugly double chinned face I make when I’m laughing really hard. So those ones turned out… um cute.

We took the photos downtown Naperville and on the riverwalk. It was pretty cold out but we are so thrilled with how the photos turned out you wouldn’t even know we were freezing! Amanda is so awesome at what she does and made us feel so comfortable, although at first it was a little weird getting used to just walking around having her take pictures of us doing nothing. I’m so excited for her to shoot our wedding in August! So without further ado, click the link then click on Lauren + Kevin to see our engagement proofs. Then come back here and leave me a comment about which ones are your favorite!! Pretty please!

The Honeymoon

17 Nov

We are both so looking forward to our honeymoon. Besides moving in to our house together it is what we are looking forward to most after the wedding is over. Now where are we going on our honeymoon you might ask, well that is undecided thus far.

Originally we were crazy about the idea of going to Bora Bora or Tahiti. After finding out how long the plane ride is (25 hours) and the price of one of those cute bungalows over the water (WAY out of budget) we knew we had to let our dream go. Hopefully we will get to vacation there someday and maybe, perhaps just maybe, if I’m an extremely good wifey we can go on our 10 year anniversary. I’m hoping.

Is this heaven?!?

Can you imagine waking up for a morning swim right outside your room?

Okay I can’t look at those photos anymore. Makes me sad. So onto where we are looking. First we were thinking somewhere in the British Virgin Islands, not too far away, really tropical, beautiful, and lots of different resorts to choose from. Unfortunately for us after a lot of research and contacting various resorts, we stumbled across the fact that it is hurricane season in August there. Boo.

So our search continued on. Now our main focus is Mexico. Not too far away, lots of flights to get there, tons of beautiful resorts, delicious food, gorgeous beaches and weather, the list goes on.

Right now the resort we are focusing on is Casa Velas in Puerta Vallarta, Mexico. This could very well change tomorrow. One of Kevin’s coworkers recommended we look into Cancun as well. We think were set on Mexico but not 100% sure. If you have ideas of where you think we should go please recommend!! We are open to anywhere not too long of a flight, semi-private resort, close or on the beach, gorgeous weather, a spa, and good food, not too many requirements right? 🙂

If you’re married, where did you go on your honeymoon?
